We provide a comprehensive range of ophthalmic services, from NHS funded eye examinations – both in our Tillicoultry practice and in the comfort of your own home – to contact lens fitting and prescription eyewear and sunwear.

If you have an urgent problem with one or both of your eyes, please call 01259 752755. Online booking is not suitable for emergency eyecare.

NHS Eye Examinations

At Ochil Eyes, we believe the eye examination is about more than just making sure you have the right prescription. We believe its the single most important part of your journey with us.

Our test room features the most up to date equipment required to carry out thorough eye examinations including a fundus camera that allows us to take photos of the back of your eye. A 3D OCT scan of your eye is available as part of our enhanced sight test which is £20.

Eye examinations in Scotland are free, funded by the NHS and the Scottish Government. The frequency with which you can have a free eye test depends on your age, and certain medical conditions but is usually every 1 – 2 years for most people.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

A new addition to the practice.

Available from March 2025.

An OCT scan is an advanced scan that allows us to assess the health of your eyes in greater detail, by allowing us to see what's going on beneath the surface of your eye.
The scan produces a 3D image beneath the surface of the eye, detailing the tissue layers within the retina.
OCT tests can help detect sight-threatening eye conditions earlier. Glaucoma can be detected up to four years earlier than traditional imaging methods
OCT scans are recommended for people aged 25 or over, who want to know more about their eye health. It is also recommended for people with diabetes and glaucoma, and those with a family history of eye disease.
An OCT scan is available now as part of our enhanced sight test which is £20.00

Emergency Eyecare

Community optometrists are already the first contact point for any eye problems and can diagnose and treat a number of conditions without the patient requiring an appointment with their GP or an ophthalmologist.

If you call your GP with a problem with your eye, they will usually request that you speak to your optician first. Free NHS funded eye examinations are also provided for:

Sudden pain in or around the eye
Sudden vision changes including loss of vision
Double or distorted vision
Injury or trauma to the eye
Painful red eye with light sensitivity
Flashes or floaters

We do not provide a walk in emergency eyecare service.

You must phone the practice on 01259 752755 in the first instance and tell us about the problem you are experiencing with your eyes.

We will then decide how quickly we need to see you based on what you tell us.

If you have an optician that you usually attend for your routine eye examinations, or have attended in the past for one, you will be asked to contact that practice first.

When you require urgent or emergency eyecare, it is important that you attend the same practice you usually attend, unless they are not available and the problem cannot wait.

Contact Lenses

A lot of people believe that they cannot wear contact lenses because their prescription is too high or because they need multifocals.

Some of our patients even believe they are too old to try contact lenses for the first time. We say you are never too old to try something for the first time.

While for some, contact lenses are not a viable option, we have fitted dozens of patients with contact lenses who previously believed they could not wear them.

Consulation Fee of £45 applies to first time contact lens wearers, lapsed wearers or patients who wish to try a new lens type.

Annual Aftercare Fee of £30 applies to existing wearers due for their annual check up.
